The Fitzroy Canoe Club shed was officially opened by the State Member for Rockhampton Hon. Robert Schwarten on 14th July. More than 70 guests, including club members, supporters and sponsors, paddlers from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Maryborough, attended the opening night.

The Fitzroy Canoe Club made a special presentation to Bart & Marg vanderMeer at its official shed opening in the form of an appreciation award for providing canoe storage and river access for over 20 years.
FCC Race Record Broken
A new race record for the 2001 Fitzroy River Marathon was established by Matt & Peter Ingermann from the Wynnum Redlands Canoe Club. Their winning time in a K2 was 2h51m50s

Construction of a suitable kayak launching area in front of the shed will be the club's next major project. This will involve the formation of a stabilised, grassed area on the river bank and a floating pontoon.
